Rack railway journey to Vall de Núria
An adventure almost 3,000 metres above sea level
The only means of transport that allows you to reach the valley!
A rack railway that climbs a vertical distance of 1,000 metres along a 12.5-kilometre track.
The rack railway is the only means of accessing Vall de Núria and is an adventure in and of itself. A journey along its 12.5 km track, over which the train rises some 1,000 metres in this beautiful high-mountain setting, is a unique experience.
Inaugurated in 1931, the rack railway train runs through spectacular landscape from Ribes de Freser to the shrine, passing over nine bridges and viaducts and through a number of tunnels. Surrounded by mountains as high as 3,000 metres above sea level, Vall de Núria presents flora and fauna characteristic of Central European and high Alpine mountains that alone are worth the trip.
Apart from the one at Montserrat, the Núria rack railway is the only one of its kind left on the Iberian peninsula.
